Rather than create a dummy site with sample data, we are using a live site as a demonstration. Since it is a live site, it can give you a better feel of how the KBOPS system would fit within your own web site and how it will benefit your customers. The other benefit of using a live site for a demonstration is that there are not just a few sample articles in the databases behind the sample but a realistic number of articles.
The company PC Plotter has kindly allowed us to use there Knowledge Base as an example of a KBOPS system used within their own site. PC Plotter develop, market, sell and support a software package that is used in the marine industry. It is a marine navigation chart plotting package that can link to a GPS unit (Global Positioning System, which gives your position on the earth's surface) and then show your position on a chart or map.
The Knowledge Base was initially entered from the help files and the readme files that were produced when the system was first launched. As new models, versions and additional features have been added then this has lead to new product version information being added to the Knowledge Base. Also, as customers have asked questions or experienced problems, either from program bugs, ommisions or from user understanding of the product, new categories of article have been added to the Knowledge Base (i.e. "How To" articles etc.)
